Author Potassium Cockburn, founding editor at PSKI PORCH PRESS, has just released his latest book BURNOUT! "Just another amputation fetishist rodeo clown saves the Earth Novel" (From the back jacket.) After reading this novel, I was astonished at the sheer fluidity of the scenery, the way that Axel (our main character via the alien space ship that has just abducted him,) can explore whole worlds, create any type of food, or indulge in whatever fantasies he may have, at any moment. The way that the author created this setup actually works well, and carries the story through, with many a curse word, and lots of jokes. I found myself on the ship with Axel, cracking up, and wanting more. This kind of surreal world that author Cockburn has invented reminds me of some of my favorite surrealists, Kobo Abe, and Comte de Lautréamont In the sense that, although Lautréamont’s work Les Chants de Maldoror is on the subject of pure evil, and is about a vampire, it reminds still me of him because of flow, and fluidity of stark surreal imagery. The reader gets a feeling like they are in on some kind of game, part of some inside joke. Really, this reminded me of kangaroo notebook, by Kōbō Abe, as well, because of its elements, the rodeo clown, sexually aroused by amputation. The latent sexually perverse characters throughout and the love of a girl who he cannot touch less the police (with red lightning bolts in their eyes) should appear. I cannot wait to discus his book in an interview coming soon. Keep yours eyes peeled for that. Fin Sorrel |
